Audience

The didactic course is appropriate for plastic surgeons, residents, fellows, urologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and interdisciplinary team members. The hands-on course is for plastic surgeons, fellows, residents, urologists, and first assists.

This course provides hands-on training for physicians who are ready to learn the surgical techniques associated with gender-affirming surgery (male-to-female genital affirmation surgery.) Surgeons will learn about the comprehensive pre and post-care treatments that are needed to meet patient needs and provide appropriate care. Surgeons will be able to attend both the didactic and hands-on cadaveric training. Hand-on surgical spots are limited.

As a result of successfully completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify the components of a multi-disciplinary approach to gender-affirming surgery.
• Incorporate tools and strategies for transmasculine and transfeminine procedures.
• Apply techniques for transfeminine vaginoplasty.

This course is also appropriate for residents who are interested in learning gender-affirming techniques. Residents will attend the comprehensive didactic training and observe the gender-affirming surgical techniques in the lab. Spots to observe the surgical techniques in the lab are limited.

Dr. John Brosious

Dr. John Brosious is a full-scope plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Las Vegas, NV. He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2007 and completed a plastic surgery residency at the University of Nevada in 2013. Most notably, Dr. Brosious achieved the highest score in the country on the written exam for the American Board of Plastic Surgery certification.

Dr. Joshua J. Goldman

Dr. Joshua Goldman is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in full-scope aesthetic and advanced reconstruction in Las Vegas, NV. Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Goldman received his undergraduate degree with honors from Stanford University where he was also a varsity NCAA gymnast and All-American Scholar-Athlete, before receiving his MD from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.  He completed his plastic surgery training at the UNLV School of Medicine and went on to obtain subspecialty training in Craniofacial and Microsurgery in Royal Oak, Michigan, allowing him to confidently care for the most complex reconstructive cases moving forward in his career.

John (Rob) Phoenix, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Presentation Title: Medical Management of the Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Patient

Bio: Rob Phoenix, APRN, FNP-C, HIV-PCP, AAHIVS. Rob Phoenix serves as an educator, patient advocate, and leader in the Las Vegas community. He is at the forefront of addressing the sexual health needs of Southern Nevada’s transgender community, the LGBTQIA+ community and racial minority groups. His efforts have increased healthcare access to patients living with HIV, leading to improved access to medical care, community resources, and treatment options. Led by Phoenix, the Huntridge Family Clinic provides culturally competent care for the LGBTQIA+, nonresident, non-English speaking, and low-income communities. The mission of the Huntridge Family Clinic is to provide individualized high-quality, compassionate care regardless of gender, gender orientation, gender expression, sexual orientation, sexual identity, race, ethnicity, or religion. They seek to transform access to care by providing exceptional healthcare for the LGBTQIA+ and Allied communities through a harm reduction lens and focus on the patient.
