Veterinarians who attended a Viticus Group event from September 10th, 2021, through March 8th, 2022 were eligible to vote for: one candidate for Vice-President, two candidates for Veterinary Director, and one candidate for Veterinary Technician Director.
We're happy to announce the winners of this year's Board of Director's election below. Thank you to all who voted and helped contribute to Viticus Group's leadership.
Heather has spent nearly 30 years in the veterinary industry with 20 years in small animal practice. She is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM), and has her certification in Professional Human Resources (SPHR).
After retiring from private practice, Heather leveraged her insights and leadership and started a consulting firm to help other practices achieve strategic goals. She has been a leader in the veterinary industry through various organizations, including the New Mexico Veterinary Technician Association (NMRVTA), North American Vet. Tech. Association (NAVTA), VHMA, Vet Partners and Fear Free. Heather has also served on board positions with the Pet Nutrition Alliance (PNA) and the Viticus Group. While at NAVTA, Heather served as the Editor in Chief for the NAVTA Journal. She has actively led discussions and advocated for the Veterinary Nurse title United States-wide.
She has taught veterinary technology and assistance programs and has authored the book "Front Office Management for the Veterinary Team", now in its 3rdedition, and edited "Review Questions and Answers for Veterinary Technicians", now in its 6thedition. In addition, she has written over 100 articles for industry publications and contributed to numerous book chapters with the goal of continuously developing leadership and management structure in veterinary practices.
Heather has attended WVC since 1996 as an attendee, exhibitor, moderator, and speaker. Currently, Heather is Director of Operations for Encore Vet Group and is completing her term as Veterinary Technician Director for the Viticus Group. During her directorship with the Viticus Group, she has served as Chairwoman of the Compensation Committee.
The industry and leadership experience that Heather brings to the Viticus Group will guide the organization toward a bright future.
Fun Fact! Heather is slated to become the first Registered Veterinary Technician President in the history of our organization.
Dr. Michael P. Jonesis board-certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Avian) and has served as an Avian/Exotic consultant for Antech Diagnostics. Currently, he is professor of Avian & Zoological Medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicineand primary veterinarian for the American Eagle Foundation. His chief responsibilities include instructing clinical students, interns, and Avian and Zoological Medicine residents.
Dr. Nagy spent five years on the University of Illinois faculty and 13 at the University of Missouri, primarily treating beef and dairy cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and camelids as part of the Food Animal Ambulatory Service. Dr. Nagy is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at Texas A&M University, where she leads the food animal medicine and surgery clinical service, instructing students in the pre-clinical and clinical professional training program.
Linda Markland, RVT, has been a member of the veterinary community for more than 40 years. Her work includes a diverse range of experience, from small-animal clinical practice and teaching to corporate management. She has a special interest in engaging, educating, and empowering veterinary nurses and technicians and is an active member of veterinary nurse/technician-related organizations.
